Medusa was one of the three Gorgons. She is celebrated for her personal charms and the beauty of her locks. Neptune obtained her favors in the temple of Minerva. This violation of the temple provoked Minerva, and she changed the locks of Medusa; which inspired Neptune's love. According to Apollodorus, her sisters and her came back to their world with snakes on their heads instead of hair. Also, their bodies were cover in scales, and had the power to turn people into stone. Perseus cut off her head, and placed it on the shield of Minerva. As for the power of the head, it still remains.
